Vietnam and China should actively join hands to consider and deal with the remaining different viewpoints on the East Sea issue based on the successful demarcation of land borders.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the suggestion while receiving the former Chinese State Councillor, Tang Jiaxuan in the capital city of Hanoi on February 23.

Having boasted huge potential for further economic cooperation, Vietnam and China need to step up investment promotion activities and trade, thereby elevating two-way trade turnover, the PM said.

PM Dung stressed that Vietnam is very delighted at the fruitful development of bilateral friendship and cooperation, especially since senior leaders of the two nations agreed to lift relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

In 2010, Vietnam and China celebrated the 60 th anniversary of diplomatic ties and organised the Year of Vietnam-China Friendship for the first time, he said, adding that these events contributed greatly to the enhancement of the friendship, trust and mutual understanding between the two nations and their people.

While briefing Tang on the documents adopted at the 11 th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), PM Dung said after the congress wrapped up, Party General Secretary and State President Hu Jintao sent a special envoy to Vietnam to convey his congratulations on the event’s success, showing Chinese leaders’ support for the Vietnamese revolutionary cause under the leadership of the CPV.

For his part, Tang promised to convey PM Dung’s proposals to Chinese leaders following his visit to Vietnam .

He said China and Vietnam should exchange more regular visits by officials at all levels, thereby enhancing the friendship and mutual understanding between their people and promoting bilateral investment relations.

The same day, Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem received Tang Jiaxuan, who has been on a visit to Vietnam from February 22-27./.
