Poll: Support of Indonesian President drops

Support of Indonesian President Joko Widodo has dropped remarkably, according to a recent poll by Pol-Tracking Indonesia.

According to the poll, 48.63 percent of respondents said they were very disappointed with the way President Widodo handled problems since he took office on October 20, 2014, while the rate of those who were satisfied with the President’s performance was 44.95 percent.

Meanwhile, 49.79 percent of respondents expressed their dissatisfaction with Vice President Jusuf Kalla’s capability.

Director of Pol-Tracking Indonesia Hanta Yudha said national satisfaction levels with the President and Vice President have markedly reduced in the past six months.

Yudha said only 22.3 percent of respondents were satisfied with the economy, the lowest among other sectors. The rate of disappointment with the policy on maintaining the stability of Rupiah was 68.8 percent, while for the policy on protecting the stable prices of basic commodities and the policy on reducing the unemployment rate, the rates were 68.6 percent and 63.4 percent, respectively.

The poll also revealed the people’s satisfaction levels with the education and health sectors, at 59.89 percent and 59.57 percent of respondents, were the highest, while the rate of satisfaction about four sectors - politics, safety, law enforcement and anti-corruption - was unchanged from last October.

The poll was conducted from October 7-14 to provide insight into the stance of the Indonesian people and viewpoints on the productive efficiency of the two leaders in their first year in power.-VNA
