Hanoi (VNA) – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Jakarta on August 5 on the last stop of a three-nation trip to Southeast Asia.

In the meeting at the presidential palace, Pompeo called Indonesia a "strategic partner" of the US and said Washington values the "growth of democracy" in the Southeast Asian nation.

On August 4, he held talks with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, who voiced concern that trade friction between the US and China could affect "all countries including Indonesia."

Before setting foot in Indonesia, the US Secretary of State attended the 51st ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and related meetings in Singapore, where he pledged to provide nearly 300 million USD in new security funding for Southeast Asia. –VNA
