A programme raising money to buy bicycles for children from disadvantaged backgrounds was launched in the central city of Da Nang on June 13.
The AIA Life Insurance Vietnam Company granted 50 bicycles, each worth 1.7 million VND, to poor children in the city.
It also funded 700 million VND (33,019 USD) for programmes supporting disadvantaged children this year.
With the support from the National Fund for Vietnamese Children (NFVC), the programme has presented more than 750 bicycles to poor children in 12 provinces and cities nationwide.
According to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, there are more than 200,000 children in Vietnam each year forced to quit school. One of the key reasons is that they live too far away from school, with many from remote and mountainous areas having to walk around 5-10 km or even further to reach their school.-VNA
