Cai Lan Port in the northern province of Quang Ninh received four vessels and handled nearly 145,000 tonnes of cargo in the first day of 2014.
The Cai Lan International Container Terminal Company (CICT) received Honest Spring ship from Panama , which docked at the port to unload 20,074 tonnes of soybean.
The MTV Quang Ninh Port Ltd. Co welcomed the three others vessels, namely Hai Qinh, Green Bay and Taio Frontier, involved in corn and wood chip.
In 2013, CICT processed about 180,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and 300,000 tonnes of cargo. This year’s figures are expected to reach 250,000 TEUs and 1 million tonnes.
Meanwhile, MTV Quang Ninh handled more than 5 million tonnes of cargo last year and plans to process 7.5 million tonnes this year, earning more than 220 billion VND (10.5 million USD).
The same day, the Singaporean Pacific Express container liner moored at Tien Sa port in the central city of Da Nang to load 200 TEUs .
In 2014, the Da Nang port set a target of handling 5.3 million tonnes of goods, including 190,000 TEUs, and welcoming 120,000 visitors.
Last year, the central port processed more than 5 million tonnes of cargo, a year-on-year increase of 13.26 percent. It received 116,000 tourists onboard 102 cruise liners, doubling the 2012 figures.-VNA
