A POSCO senior executive arrived inVietnam in March 15 for a three-day visit to survey a possibleexpansion in the group' stainless steel division in the country.

Oh Chang-Kwan, senior executive deputy president of the Republic ofKorea-based POSCO group's stainless steel division, has visited thecountry because the group is considering expanding production capacityof its stainless steel cold rolling plant operated by its subsidiaryPOSCO Vietnam Stainless Steel (POSCO VST), to 300,000 tonnes per year.

The visit comes as negotiations for acquiring extra shares ofThailand-based stainless cold rolling mill, Thainox, have been delayed.POSCO has a 15 percent share in the mill.

Located in the southern province of Dong Nai 's Nhon Trach IndustrialPark , POSCO VST, the only stainless steel cold rolling plant inVietnam , can produce of 85,000 tonnes of stainless steel cold rolledproducts per year.

POSCO VST was established in October 2009 after the RoK group took over90 percent shares of the former Asia Stainless Steel Co.

The expansion of POSCO VST is part of a plan to expand the group'sstainless steel market share in Southeast Asia that aims to help POSCOmatch consumption growth in the region, said POSCO./.
