The 13th National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee convened its 36th session on March 9 with the special focus on final preparations for the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-132) to be held in Hanoi later this month.

NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said IPU-132 will focus on promoting messages of peace, democracy, and social progress and equality. It will also be a great opportunity to promote Vietnamese land, people, and parliament, he added.

Chairman of the NA’s Committee for External Relations Tran Van Hang said IPU-132 is scheduled to include 67 sessions and 66 bilateral meetings, adding that 126 delegations have registered to attend the event so far.

Vietnam will send 12 NA deputies to participate in and speak at 15 forums, Hang noted.

Members of the NA Standing Committee also underscored the importance of ensuring security and safety for IPU-132 as the biggest diplomatic event ever held in Vietnam.

The last rehearsal for the IPU-132 opening ceremony will be held on March 15 at the NA headquarters.

During the 36th session, the NA Standing Committee will also comment on eight draft laws and a number of resolutions and infrastructure projects.

They are expected to debate adjustments to a series of administrative units and organise question-and-answer sessions for Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court Truong Hoa Binh and Minister and Chairman of the Government’s Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs Giang Seo Phu.-VNA
