Hanoi (VNA) – The 15th National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee reviewed the legislature’s eighth session and discuss the preparations for the ninth session on December 11 during its 40th meeting.
Delivering a report summarising the eighth session, NA General Secretary and Chairman of the NA Office Le Quang Tung stated that after 29.5 days of serious, urgent, scientific, democratic, and responsible work, with the spirit of continuous renovation and improvement to meet the ever-growing demands of reality, the session was a success.
During the session, the NA passed 18 laws and 21 resolutions, while giving opinions on 10 draft laws, deciding on the appointments of high-ranking State officials, as well as other important matters in various fields.
These actions contributed to building a comprehensive and full legal system, promptly removing obstacles and bottlenecks, mobilising resources for economic development, ensuring national defence, and improving the people's living standards, meeting the requirements of national renewal and development in the new era – the era of the nation's rise, said Tung.
Regarding preparations for the ninth sitting, the official said that due to the large number of legislative, supervisory, and important decision-making issues, as well as many complex matters, the session will be organised in two phases, with a nine-day break between them. This arrangement will allow sufficient time for NA agencies and relevant parties to receive and respond to comments from deputies; revise and complete the draft laws and resolutions with the best quality before presenting them for approval. It is expected that during the session, the NA will review 31 items related to legislative work; seven groups of economic-social issues, State budget, supervision, and other important matters; and seven groups of items for which reports will be sent to deputies for reviewing.
The NA is expected to work for 26 days. The first phase will mainly discuss contents to be voted on during the session, group discussions on certain draft laws, and question-and-answer sessions. The second phase will focus on the approval of some laws and resolutions and debate several bills.
Meanwhile, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Tran Van Son said that on December 10, the Prime Minister signed a document assigning cabinet members to prepare 50 documents, reports, and proposals to be submitted to the NA in a timely manner. The Government also plans to present amendments to the Law on the Organisation of the Government and the Law on the Organisation of Local Administration at the upcoming extraordinary NA session.
Concluding the session, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man reaffirmed the success of the eighth session as well as the close coordination among relevant NA bodies, Government, ministries and sectors.
Regarding the ninth session, the top legislator noted that 10 laws and one resolution are expected to be adopted, while 12 draft laws will be discussed. He suggested the session open on May 20 and close on June 30, 2025, with the possibility of working on Saturdays./.
