State President Nguyen Minh Triet has stressed on the need for the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong to take more advantage of its potential for socio-economic development.

While working with Dak Nong provincial leaders on January 8, President Triet suggested that Dak Nong should work more closely with central agencies when planning, exploiting and processing natural resources for export, particularly bauxite, while protecting the environment.

He went on to say that Dak Nong needs to use its land resources more effectively by developing large-scale agriculture with a high economic value.

The province should target its capital at the rural transport system and invest further in education, healthcare and culture while eradicating hunger and reducing poverty, said the President.

Dak Nong must also reform its administrative operations and investment procedures and issue preferential policies to encourage foreign and domestic investors, he added.

He used the occasion to praise Dak Nong for its efforts to overcome recent difficulties and step up socio-ecomomic development while improving the living standards of the ethnic minorities as well as ensuring social welfare and enhancing national solidarity.

The State leader also applauded various improvements in education, healthcare and in preserving traditional cultures.

Regarding the Politburo’s resolution on a strategy for judicial reform, President Triet asked local judicial agencies to avoid unfair punishments and enhance the judicial sector’s infrastructure, especially district courts.

He also asked judicial agencies to work independently and the provincial authorities and enhance legal education for ethnic minority people.

Earlier, on January 7, President Triet had highlighted the efforts made by the provincial People’s Court and the Police in Dak Nong.

He also visited the DakR’Tih hydro-electric power project which has the capacity to produce 142MW, which cost more than 4.2 trillion VND, and presented gifts to heroic Vietnamese mothers and ethnic revolutionaries in the province./.
