State President Nguyen Minh Triet hascommended the Vietnamese business community’s huge contributions to thecountry’s development.
The leader delivered thepraise while attending a programme, entitled “Vietnamese businesspeople with Hoa Lu-Thang Long-Hanoi: 1,000 years of construction andsustainable development”, which was organised at the NationalConvention Centre in Hanoi on March 4.
President Triet said Vietnam ’s economy has constantly grown, even whenthe world plunged into an economic crisis. This is a common success ofthe entire nation, to which Vietnamese businesses and businesspeoplehave made a considerable contribution, he stressed.
The Vietnamese businesses and businesspeople have gradually developedand their operations have expanded to the world, the president said.
He went on to say that the business community has not only helpedfoster the country’s development and improve the people’s livingconditions, but also joined in social and charity activities, hungereradication and poverty reduction, as well as the care of beneficiariesof social policies, the poor and Agent Orange victims.
On behalf of the participating entrepreneurs, Chairman of the SaigonInvest Group (SGI) Dang Thanh Tam promised to accomplish the tasksassigned by the Party, State and people as Vietnam is integratingdeeper into the world economy.
At the ceremony, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’sInformation and Education Phung Huu Phu presented on behalf of theorganisers 1,000 scholarships to poor students in Hanoi and Ninh Binhprovince.
Many other enterprises also granted hundreds of scholarships todisadvantaged students who have achieved excellent study results.
More than 3,000 delegates, including 1,000 entrepreneurs, participatedin the biggest event of its kind that was broadcast live on channelsVTV2 and VTV4 of the Vietnam Television, and the Hanoi and Ninh Binhtelevisions.
Earlier, the businesspeople offered incense to the temples dedicated toKings Dinh and Le and at a stele that honours King Ly Thai To in NinhBinh province. They also planted 1,000 Bodhi trees in front of the BaiDinh pagoda.
The attendees also joined 100 Buddhist monks and followers in afestival to pray for peace, prosperity and favourable weather for thewhole nation at the Bai Dinh pagoda - the same site where King DinhTien Hoang conducted a ceremony to pray for favourable weather morethan 1,000 years ago.
The programme was jointly organised by the Party Central Committee’sInformation and Education, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, the VietnamTelevision, Radio the Voice of Vietnam, the Vietnam News Agency, theprovincial People’s Committees of Hanoi and Ninh Binh province, thePresidential Office, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministryof Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Association for Small- andMedium-sized Enterprises, the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council, theNational Committee for International Economic Cooperation, theCommunist Party of Vietnam Online Newspaper and the VietLong PromotionCompany./.
