State President Truong Tan Sang expressed his hope that when the Hanoi – Lao Cai Highway was completed, trade and economic exchange between Vietnam and the Chinese province of Yunnan would increase.
Receiving visiting Yunnan Governor Li Jiheng in Hanoi on April 3, President Sang suggested Yunnan cooperate with Vietnam in the field of high technology, one of the province’s fortes.
Yunnan Governor Li Jiheng said that relations between Vietnam and China were a valuable asset, and that Yunnan highly valued its friendship and solidarity with Vietnam .
He added that the two sides would continue to boost their comprehensive cooperation.
He told his host that China wanted Yunnan to become a key channel for the country to strengthen diplomatic cooperation with Southeast Asian and South Asian countries.
The province will hold a trade exhibition, in the coming time, which he hoped Vietnamese enterprises would participate in to contribute to raising the two-way trade turnover, Li said.
On the same day, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Phuong Nga met with Governor Li.
They agreed that Vietnam and Yunnan should mobilise their current cooperation mechanism and make sustainable use of water resources in the two countries’ border areas.
The two sides also agreed to implement three documents on joint land border management, contributing to a peaceful, friendly and stable border area.-VNA
