President hails stronger ties with Yunnan

The State President has expressed his hope that economic exchange between VN and Yunnan province would increase.
State President Truong Tan Sang expressed his hope that when the Hanoi– Lao Cai Highway was completed, trade and economic exchangebetween Vietnam and the Chinese province of Yunnan wouldincrease.

Receiving visiting Yunnan Governor LiJiheng in Hanoi on April 3, President Sang suggested Yunnancooperate with Vietnam in the field of high technology, one of theprovince’s fortes.

Yunnan Governor Li Jiheng saidthat relations between Vietnam and China were a valuable asset, andthat Yunnan highly valued its friendship and solidarity with Vietnam.

He added that the two sides would continue to boost their comprehensive cooperation.

He told his host that China wanted Yunnan to become a keychannel for the country to strengthen diplomatic cooperation withSoutheast Asian and South Asian countries.

The province will holda trade exhibition, in the coming time, which he hoped Vietnameseenterprises would participate in to contribute to raising the two-waytrade turnover, Li said.

On the same day, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Phuong Nga met with Governor Li.

They agreed that Vietnam and Yunnan should mobilise theircurrent cooperation mechanism and make sustainable use of waterresources in the two countries’ border areas.

Thetwo sides also agreed to implement three documents on joint land bordermanagement, contributing to a peaceful, friendly and stable border area.-VNA

To further advance bilateral ties in the new era, the two leaders agreed to continue making full use of existing cooperation mechanisms across all channels, including meetings between the two Parties, promote exchanges between young leaders and youth from both countries, and expand cooperation between their legislative, executive and judicial bodies, people’s organisations and localities.
