President Ho's German biographer visits

Hellmut Kapfenberger, a German journalist who wrote a book aboutPresident Ho Chi Minh, arrived in the country on April 13 for a two-weekvisit.

During the visit, he will talk to local readers and meet witnesses ofthe American war, including General Dong Sy Nguyen, who commandedlogistics transport from the north to the south through mountains andjungles during the war, and drivers on that legendary route.

He also plans to take a field trip on some parts of the route, known asthe Ho Chi Minh Trail, to collect information for his next book.

As a reporter for ADN, the official news agency of the former GermanDemocratic Republic, Kapfenberger spent seven years in the country toreport on the war.

He witnessed fierce battles, American atrocities and the heroic resistance of the Vietnamese.

He started researching and collecting data on President Ho Chi Minhfollowing his visit to the President's home in central Nghe Anprovince's Sen Village around 40 years ago.

Titled Ho ChiMinh, the book was translated into Vietnamese and published in Vietnamlast year on the occasion of President Ho's 120th birthday and the35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties betweenGermany and Vietnam .

The 300-page book chroniclesPresident Ho's revolutionary life from his youth, his travels around theworld, and his adoption of Marxism and Leninism to his politicalactivities in France and the former Soviet Union .

Hecompiled the book based on documents of politicians, scholars andresearchers in Vietnam , France , China and the US. /.

Intellectual cooperation deepens Vietnam–France relations: expert

Ministry proposes seven-day 2027 Lunar New Year holiday

Under the Ministry of Home Affairs' proposal, civil servants and public employees in Vietnam would receive five statutory days off, including two days before and three days after the Lunar New Year.
