Hanoi (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang hosted separate receptions for Ambassadors of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mozambique and the Republic of Korea (RoK) after receiving their letter of credentials on May 17.

Welcoming UAE Ambassador Obaid Al Dhaheri, President Quang expressed his satisfaction with positive development in bilateral relations. The UAE is currently one of the leading trade, investment and labour partners of Vietnam in the Middle East.

He affirmed Vietnam wants to intensify its collaboration with the UAE, focusing on all-level delegation exchanges, mutual support at international forums and raising two-way trade to 10 billion USD in the following years.

Vietnam encourages UAE investors to do business in Vietnam in the fields of renewable energy, hotel-tourism, infrastructure, aviation-sea ports, real estate and Halal food production, while hoping to gain access to preferential loans of the Abu Dhabi Development Fund, the President said.

He asked the new ambassador to support the two countries’ enterprises and encourage more UAE projects in Vietnam.

Ambassador Obaid Al Dhaheri affirmed that Vietnam is the UAE’s important partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), adding that his duty is to further develop the bilateral ties, particularly in economics and trade.

He also said that the UAE appreciates the role of Vietnam at international forums.

Receiving Mozambican Ambassador Leonardo Pene, President Quang wished him a successful working tenure to contribute to enhancing friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between Vietnam and Mozambique.

He spoke highly of Mozambique’s support for and close coordination with Vietnam at multilateral forums such as the United Nations, Non-aligned Movement and African Union.

He asked Mozambique to early confirm its backing for Vietnam’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for 2020-2021.

Vietnam wants to intensify its cooperation with Mozambique in the time ahead, especially in agriculture, transport, mining and education, he stressed.

For his part, Ambassador Pene stated that agriculture is one of the fields that Mozambique wants to tighten cooperation with Vietnam.

He proposed organising a meeting of the Inter-Governmental Committee in July, while sharing that Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi hopes to pay a visit to Vietnam in 2019.

Meanwhile, at his reception for RoK Ambassador Kim Do-hyun, President Tran Dai Quang said he is delighted at strong development in the bilateral relations.

He noted that political trust and mutual understanding have been strengthened through regular visits and meetings between high-ranking leaders. The RoK remains the biggest investor and the second biggest ODA and trade partner of Vietnam. The two sides also signed a framework credit agreement worth 1.5 billion USD for the 2016-2020 period.

He suggested both sides step up high-level delegation exchanges to consolidate political trust so as to facilitate cooperation in other fields.

The President asked the RoK side to create favourable conditions for Vietnam’s export of agricultural and aquatic products to reduce trade deficit, intensify experience sharing and technology transfer to Vietnam to help Vietnam join in the global production and supply chain.

He also proposed intensifying people-to-people diplomacy and supporting each other’s citizens who are living and studying in the other country.

Ambassador Kim Do-hyun told the host that RoK President Moon Jae-in had emphasised that the RoK-Vietnam strategic cooperative partnership is a role model for the RoK’s relations with other countries, and the RoK treasures its economic, trade and investment cooperation with Vietnam.

The ambassador committed to promoting the image of Vietnam to attract more Korean investors to the country, particularly in computing and high technology.

He will help to intensify technology transfer, increase the capacity of Vietnamese small- and medium-sized enterprises, and simplify visa procedures for Vietnamese citizens to facilitate the two peoples’ exchange activities.-VNA
