President lauds contributions of chief representatives abroad

President Tran Dai Quang attributed the achievements Vietnam has recorded in external affairs and international integration to the contributions made by heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, during talks on the sidelines of the 30th Diplomatic Conference on August 14.

Hanoi (VNA) – PresidentTran Dai Quang attributed the achievements Vietnam has recorded in externalaffairs and international integration to the contributions made by heads ofVietnamese representative agencies abroad, during talks on the sidelines of the30th Diplomatic Conference on August 14.

He asked the diplomaticsector and the chief representatives in particular to focus on implementingorientations and tasks set at the 30th Diplomatic Conference which took place inHanoi from 13-17.

Accordingly, it is a necessityto continue reforming thoughts in both diplomacy and national development amidstcurrent changes in the global situation as well as the Fourth IndustrialRevolution, he said.

The President tasked thediplomats with affirming the Party and State’s consistent policy of being afriend, trustworthy partner, and responsible member of the internationalcommunity.

He also highlighted therole of diplomats in protecting national interests, urging them to heed raisingthe quality of economic and cultural diplomacy while continuously improvingtheir capacity for research and strategic forecast.

The diplomats should raiseinitiatives at multilateral, regional, and international forums in order to spotlightVietnam as a responsible member and demonstrate its position, the State leadersaid.

One of the key tasks forthe chief representatives this year lies with overseas Vietnamese affairs andcitizen protection work, the President noted.

Apart from personneltraining, they need to pay attention to Party building; preventing degradation in political ideology, morality, and lifestyle,as well as the phenomena of“self-evolution” and“self-transformation,” he said.

PresidentQuang asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to continue its coordination withrelevant ministries and agencies to propose specific solutions to the Party andthe State to build or restore overseas Vietnamese representative offices.

The Diplomatic Conference, which was initiated in 1957, convenes every twoyears to provide a venue for the diplomatic sector to reach a consensus onawareness, resolve, and action to effectively implement the Party and State’sforeign policy. –VNA

Historic relic sites in Hong Kong inspire national pride among overseas Vietnamese

Indian Defence Minister pays official visit to Vietnam
