President Truong Tan Sang extended New Year greetings and presented Tet gifts to disadvantaged people in the northern provinces of Ha Nam and Hung Yen on February 13.

He paid a visit to Giai Pham commune, which stood out in the new-style rural area building programme in Hung Yen province, and handed over 100 gifts to impoverished households and policy beneficiary families.

Meeting with Hung Yen provincial leaders, the President praised the remarkable achievements made by the locality and people over the past year despite confronting a number of difficulties.

The province experienced a 7.2 percent economic growth while injected investments were consistently maintained. It has met 13 out of the 19 new-style rural area criteria.

In line with the tradition of the Lunar New Year, he offered incense to generations of Vietnamese heroes worshipped in the two provinces.

In Ha Nam province, President Truong Tan Sang attended a ceremony to inaugurate a memorial house for Nguyen Huu Tien, who designed the National Flag.-VNA
