President Truong Tan Sang has expressed his belief that with their scale and potential, US businesses will continue to be Vietnam’s leading partners.

The President shared his views at a meeting with visiting Chairman of the US-ASEAN Business Council (UABC) Evan Greenberg and representatives of several US businesses in Hanoi on October 29.

He said he was delighted to see US entrepreneurs again following their meeting earlier this month at the 21 st Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Bali, Indonesia.

The leader spoke highly of the UABC’s role in encouraging US agencies to partner with the Vietnamese side within frameworks of the World Trade Organisation and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement .

He suggested the council continues its effort to bring the Vietnamese market closer to US businesses, pledging the creation of every favourable condition for US-ASEAN businesses to invest in the country in the long-term.

In response, Evan Greenberg, who is also Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ACE Ltd, said he and the council want to bring more businesses to Vietnam.

Stressing the council’s mission to introduce the potential for cooperation, the US entrepreneur said Vietnam has made a lot of progress in improving its investment environment.

He, however, underlined the need for the country to better perform in several fields.

He voiced his hope that Vietnam will actively engage in the TPP negotiations as the agreement offers a good opportunity to enhance cooperation between the US and other partners.

Thanking President Sang for his active contributions to boosting the US-Vietnam relationship, Evan Greenberg pledged to do his utmost to encourage US businesses to invest in the Southeast Asian country.-VNA
