President stresses water resources at APEC event

Speaking at the 2012 APEC business summit in Vladivostok, Russia, on September 7, the President stressed the need to have a comprehensive approach and pay full attention to the sustainable exploitation, use and management of water resources around the world.

It is necessary to form an APEC dialogue mechanism on water resources, in combination with the new APEC growth strategy, he said.

As a co-chair of the discussion on water, the President highly valued the role and contributions by businesses in their investment in research and development in order to conserve and effectively use water resources.

He urged the businesses to promote their social responsibility, help raise the public awareness and invest in technology research and transfer to effectively use water resources.

On the same day, President Sang visited the National Nevexki Maritime University and delivered a speech at the Vietnam-Russia business talks within the framework of bilateral activities with Russia.

At the Vietnam-Russia business forum with the participation of more than 200 firms form both sides, Sang highlighted the two countries’ great potential for cooperation, saying that Vietnam is interested in Russia’s implementation of its development strategy for the Far East by 2025.

Vietnam is considering Russia’s proposal on the establishment of joint ventures in the production and processing of agriculture, seafood, furniture and apparel.

The country always pays special attention and priority to the development of comprehensive cooperation with Russia, Sang affirmed.

The same day, he received representatives of leading US groups to the APEC business summit.

Later, the President hosted a banquet for leaders of major regional groups and affirmed Vietnam ’s determination to strongly implement its economic structuring and growth model.

Participants highly valued Vietnam’s efforts in maintaining macro-economic stability, curbing inflation and implementing comprehensive international integration.

On September 8-9, President Sang and his entourage will attend the 20th summit of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum and take part in other activities.-VNA
