President: stronger role for lawmakers
Triet made the
point during his meeting with the Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh
City Fatherland Front in the city on March 15 to consult them on the
municipal NA delegation’s performance as elections for the legislative
body’s next term approach.
The State President
recognised contributions made by the municipal parliamentary delegation
as positive and significant, especially to crucial national issues.
Members of Parliament (MPs) in HCM City, who are large in number and
high in quality, should increase contact with voters, deliberate contact
reforms and push ahead the process of solving voters’ petitions and
complaints with accuracy, Triet said.
At the
meeting, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Chairman, Huynh
Dam, emphasised preparations for the elections to the National Assembly,
13th tenure, as an important task.
Preparations
should focus on the quality of each and every deputy and NA agencies in
an effort to improve the top legislative body’s performance, said the
leader of the nation’s largest social organisation.
The head of the HCM City NA delegation, Pham Phuong Thao, reported
that the 23-strong municipal delegation had conducted 28 supervisions
and joined the Council of Ethnic Minorities and other agencies of the
National Assembly in 36 supervisions. The municipal lawmakers also held
420 meetings with voters and solved almost 56 percent of petitions and
complaints received in the outgoing term./.
