Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnamese community in Spain as well as more than 60 Spanish officials and friends have paid homage to President Tran Dai Quang at the Vietnamese Embassy in Madrid.

In the two days of opening the funeral books from September 26-27, the embassy received many messages of condolences from organisations and individuals as well as diplomatic representatives of different countries in Spain over the passing away of the leader.

Spanish King Felipe VI also extended his condolences to Vietnam over the loss.

Writing on the funeral book, Ambassador to Spain Ngo Tien Dung highlighted contributions of President Tran Dai Quang in different positions.

“The image of a President who devoted his whole life for the national reform, poverty reduction, sustainable development and international integration will be remembered by Vietnamese people,” he stated.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela also held a solemn ceremony and opened a funeral book commemorating President Tran Dai Quang.

In his speech at the ceremony, Ambassador Dao Thanh Chung said that President Tran Dai Quang was an excellent leader who made great sacrifices for the nation as well as important contributions to the national construction and development, a leader trusted by international friends and devoted to the growth of ties between Vietnam and other countries in the world.

The passing away of the President is a great loss of Vietnam and the international community, he added.

All the participants at the ceremony spent a minute of silent in memory of President Tran Dai Quang.

Venezuelan and international fiends in the country, as well as many delegations of local officials, political and social organisations, including a high-ranking delegation of Venezuela led by Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopes came to the embassy to pay tribute to the leader and wrote on the funeral book.

After learning about the leader’s death, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez and Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza, through Ambassador Chung, conveyed their deep condolences to the Party, Government and people of Vietnam over the loss.-VNA
