State President Nguyen Minh Triet urged the mountainous northern province of YenBai to tap all its strengths for the sake of economic development.
TheState leader made the request while meeting with key Yen Bai officials duringhis working visit to the province from Mar. 3-4 on socio-economic developmentand the implementation of the Party Politburo’s resolution on legal reformthrough 2020 in the locality.
He praised Yen Bai’s comprehensiveachievements over the past time. Noteworthy was its GDP of 12.9 percent in 2009.Also, the number of poor households fell by 5.5 percent in theprovince.
However, he said, Yen Bai remains a poor locality and shouldfocus on economic development and transport infrastructure, as well as traininghuman resources to ensure the sustainability of development.
PresidentTriet said the province, which harbours considerable potential in terms offarmland and forests, needs to boost agricultural development, which would helpstabilise people’s lives. In addition, the province should accelerate thedevelopment of its mining industry and cement production as well as coordinatewith relevant agencies to expand its airport in the near future in order toaccommodate economic development.
On legal reform, President Trietroundly praised Yen Bai, stressing that its legal operations saw remarkablechanges, despite a lack of judicial cadres. He asked the province to pay moreattention to personnel training for the justice sector and pledged that theParty and Government would create policies to encourage judicial cadres to workin mountainous and remote areas.
During the visit, the President alsoheld working sessions with the Steering Committee for the North-Western Region,the North-Western Security Department, the Yen Binh VINACONEX Cement Company,and some military units in the province.
The Yen Binh VINACONEX CementPlant is one of five cement plants in the north western region. It has aninvestment capital of 1.1 trillion VND (65.2 million USD) and a designedcapacity of 750,000 tonnes of clinker, equal to 1 million tonnes of cement, ayear. It produces PC40 and PCB40 cement, supplying major projects in the region,including the Bac Ha, Ban Trac and Huoi Quang hydro-power plants and Lang-HoaLac highway project./.
