The State leader made the request while meeting with key Yen Bai officials during his working visit to the province from Mar. 3-4 on socio-economic development and the implementation of the Party Politburo’s resolution on legal reform through 2020 in the locality.
He praised Yen Bai’s comprehensive achievements over the past time. Noteworthy was its GDP of 12.9 percent in 2009. Also, the number of poor households fell by 5.5 percent in the province.
However, he said, Yen Bai remains a poor locality and should focus on economic development and transport infrastructure, as well as training human resources to ensure the sustainability of development.
President Triet said the province, which harbours considerable potential in terms of farmland and forests, needs to boost agricultural development, which would help stabilise people’s lives. In addition, the province should accelerate the development of its mining industry and cement production as well as coordinate with relevant agencies to expand its airport in the near future in order to accommodate economic development.
On legal reform, President Triet roundly praised Yen Bai, stressing that its legal operations saw remarkable changes, despite a lack of judicial cadres. He asked the province to pay more attention to personnel training for the justice sector and pledged that the Party and Government would create policies to encourage judicial cadres to work in mountainous and remote areas.
During the visit, the President also held working sessions with the Steering Committee for the North-Western Region, the North-Western Security Department, the Yen Binh VINACONEX Cement Company, and some military units in the province.
The Yen Binh VINACONEX Cement Plant is one of five cement plants in the north western region. It has an investment capital of 1.1 trillion VND (65.2 million USD) and a designed capacity of 750,000 tonnes of clinker, equal to 1 million tonnes of cement, a year. It produces PC40 and PCB40 cement, supplying major projects in the region, including the Bac Ha, Ban Trac and Huoi Quang hydro-power plants and Lang-Hoa Lac highway project./.
