Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met with Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, President of the Thailand National Legislative Assembly Pornpetch Wichicholchai and attended a Vietnam-Thailand business forum on July 23 as part of his visit to the Southeast Asian country.

The PM lauded the role that the princess and the Thai Royal Familyplay in supporting the Vietnamese community in Thailand.

He thanked the princess for her assistance to a number of Vietnameseprimary schools as well as the scientific research cooperation betweenthe two countries. He also expressed his hope that the princess and theRoyal Family would support the partnership in preserving the MekongRiver water resource.

For her part, the Thaiprincess said that as a Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO, she is willing tomake contributions to the promotion of education collaboration betweenThailand and Vietnam.

At a meeting with President ofthe Thailand National Legislative Assembly Pornpetch Wichicholchai, thePM briefed the host on the outcomes of his talks with his counterpartPrayut Chan-o-cha as well as the Joint Cabinet Meeting with the signingof a joint statement as well as four agreements.

Thejoint statement maps out orientations and measures to comprehensivelyfoster bilateral ties in politics, diplomacy, economy, trade, education,tourism, defence, security and people-to-people contacts, he noted.

Both sides also agreed to promote mutual support forthe interest of both peoples as well as to benefit the whole ASEAN, headded.

Pornpetch Wichicholchai said he hopes thelegislative bodies of both countries will jointly hold large cooperationactivities to mark the 40 th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic tiesin 2016.

He congratulated Vietnam on successfully organising the 132 nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-32).

Speaking at the Vietnam-Thailand business forum, the PM said Vietnamhighly values Thai-funded projects and pledged that the country willcreate all favourable conditions for Thai investors to develop stablebusinesses.

Vietnam is actively speeding upinternational integration in all fields and has set up relationship withalmost all countries around the globe, he noted, adding that thecountry has strategic partnerships with 13 countries, includingThailand, and trade ties with over 200 countries and territories.

From 2011-2015, the country saw an average annual trade revenue riseof about 15 percent with last year’s revenue reaching 300 billion USD.It is estimated to hit 350 billion USD this year.

Thailand is now the 10 th largest investor in Vietnam with 392 projectsworth nearly 7 billion USD. The country is also Vietnam’s fifth largesttrade partner with about 4.4 billion USD in trade in the first fivemonths of this year.

At the Joint Cabinet Meeting,the two sides agreed to raise trade to 20 billion USD by 2020, he said,adding that both will focus on cooperation in sea tourism, passengertransportation, garment-textile, footwear, agriculture, seafood, farmproduce processing and manufacturing.

The same day,PM Nguyen Tan Dung also met with the Vietnamese community in Thailand,lauding their contributions to national construction and defence andexpressing hope that they will continue joining hands with those at homefor the growth of the country.

Ho Chi Minh City, EU boast ample room for sustainable development cooperation

Since the establishment of their diplomatic ties in 1990, Vietnam and the EU have deepened the bilateral ties into one of the bloc’s most dynamic and in-depth partnerships with an ASEAN member, Ha noted, adding that the relationship entered a new chapter in January when the President of European Council’s visit upgraded it to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Vietnam ready to strengthen BRICS connection with Asia-Pacific

Hang called on countries to act responsibly in accordance with international law and the UN Charter; respect the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of states; refrain from using or threatening to use force; and settle disputes peacefully through dialogue. She also underscored the importance of ensuring security, safety and freedom of navigation through straits in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Photo exhibition highlights Vietnam–DPRK relations

Visitors at the exhibition were moved by historical photographs dating back nearly 70 years, including images of the founding leader of the DPRK Kim Il Sung personally welcoming President Ho Chi Minh and a CPV delegation at Pyongyang’s Sunan International Airport during their visit to the DPRK from July 8–12, 1957. In return, the DPRK leader paid an official visit to Vietnam from November 27 to December 3, 1958.
