Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on October 7 received Thai Ambassador Pisanu Chanvitan who has just been assigned to his country’s mission in Vietnam.

PM Dung welcomed Ambassador Pisanu Chanvitan to Vietnam, noting that Vietnam and Thailand – neighbour countries and members of the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) – enjoy a long-standing friendship and cooperative relations.

The relations are strongly developing in various fields, including those of economics, trade, investment, culture, security and defence, he said.

Over the years, the two countries have been coordinating in building the ASEAN community and the group’s charter, contributing to making the community more prosperous, he added.

However, he stressed, there is still a vast amount of untapped potential for cooperation between the two countries, especially the fields of investment, trade, and tourism.

PM Dung suggested Ambassador Pisanu Chanvitan coordinate with Vietnam’s ministries and branches to boost joint efforts.

The Vietnamese government will create the best possible conditions for the ambassador to fulfil his task, he noted.

Ambassador Pisanu Chanvitan expressed his thanks for the Vietnamese government’s support of his country during its tenure as ASEAN Chairman.

He affirmed that he would try his best to strengthen collaboration between the two countries in the fields of trade, investment and tourism.

He also confirmed that the Thai government would support Vietnam as the country takes the position of ASEAN Chairman./.
