Hanoi (VNA) – Individuals and businesses alike should be the subject of internationalintegration, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said at a teleconference on April23.
Theinternational integration cause will only reach success with the constructiveand effective participation of all individuals and businesses, the leaderstressed.
Heurged the entire political system and all-level agencies to show stronger resolvein order to push ahead with international integration efforts.
Economicintegration must increase internal force, which is also the core task, the PMsaid, adding that integration in other spheres must support economicintegration.
Regardingintegration in politics and national defence and security, he emphasised theneed to deepen both bilateral and multilateral relations and bring into fullplay the role of multilateral diplomacy.
Inculture-society, education-training, and science-technology integration, PMPhuc said technology and talents will decide the success of competition in the21st century, and underlined the significance of learning to raise internalforces in line with common practices and standards.
Duringinternational integration, the role of localities and businesses should becarried forward and must be able to benefit from the cause, the leader said.
Hehighlighted the remarkable achievements that Vietnam has recorded ininternational integration over the past five years, saying the cause hascontributed to consolidating a peaceful domestic environment, optimisingfavourable international factors to serve the country’s development, maintainingthe stable social and political environment, and promoting the country’s imageand culture.
Throughintegration, Vietnam has persistently and resolvedly preserved itsindependence, national sovereignty, reunification, and territorial integrity,as well as rights and interests of the nation, people, and businesses.
“Wedon’t avoid differences, but actively engage in dialogues and struggle to protectour legitimate interests,” he said.
ThePM said integration has served as important momentum to spur growth andsocio-economic development, increase national strength, and heighten the country’sposition and prestige in the world.
Atotal of 71 countries have recognised Vietnam’s market economy status, he said,adding that 11 of the free trade agreements (FTAs) that Vietnam has signed havenow come into force.
Thecountry is working with the EU to accelerate the adoption of the Vietnam-EU FTAand negotiating four other FTAs.
Thesepacts will be an important foundation for Vietnamese goods and services toaccess high incentives of 59 partner markets, while creating favourableconditions for the country to attract foreign direct investment, generate jobs,and boost economic development.
Overthe past five years, public awareness of international integration has beensignificantly improved, he noted.
ThePM, however, pointed out limitations in the cause, saying Vietnam’s strategicgeo-economic position has yet to be optimised and coordination betweenministries, agencies, and localities have yet to bring high efficiency.
Inaddition, low management capacity and limited public access to relevantinformation are among the key problems hindering the cause, he said. –VNA
