The renovated Cong Quynh Theatre which is now privately owned, opened on Oct. 21 in district 1, HCM City.

The owner, the Sai Gon Phang (Plat Sai Gon) Media Service Joint-Stock Company, paid for the upgrade of the theatre, which was once owned by the HCM City Movie and Drama College .

“With the hope of conserving and developing drama which the board of management and I love, we decided to invest in the theatre despite knowing that we will meet a lot of difficulties,” Do Thanh Hien, the company’s director said.

The theatre’s first show will be presented to the public on Nov. 2.

Hien also said that his company was considering renovating HCM City Theatre’s Ga Dinh Theatre at 142 Dinh Tien Hoang in Binh Thanh district.

The theatres are located in the centre of the city and have large parking lots for cars and motorbikes, he said.

The Cong Quynh Theatre will present three plays’ Nuoc Mat Dan Ong (Men’s Tears) written by Hoang Linh Huong, Ty Phu O Rac (Rubbish Dumps’ Millionaire) by Quy Hai and Nguyen Van Phuc and Trai Yeu’ (When Men are in Love) by Bao Ngoc and Ngoc Hung. Experienced and young actors from drama, film and music will be recruited to perform at the theatre.

The Sai Gong Phang Company and the HCM City Theatre’ Dong Nho’ (Memory) directed by Hanh Thuy received the Best Director Award at this year’s National Theatre Festival, held in HCM City last month./.
