National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung held a working session with key leaders of the Supreme People’s Procuracy in Hanoi on March 2 to seek measures to improve its operational quality.

The top legislator applauded the procuracy sector for exercising its prosecution rights and promptly settling cases.

Chairman Hung asked the sector to gradually modernise facilities and increase the number of qualified staff with professional skills and good behaviour through training courses.

Deputy Head of the Supreme People’s Procuracy Hoang Nghia Mai said the sector has taken measures to improve the quality of prosecution and oversight of judicial activities.

Last year, the number of appeal cases rose by 27 percent and the number of innocent defendants fell 23 percent over 2010.

In the near future, the Supreme People’s Procuracy will hasten the progress of settling over 200 cases of public concern and host nearly 2,000 trials to improve skills for prosecutors.-VNA
