Illustrative image (Source: VNA)Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved a project on care for comprehensive child development in early years at home and in the community during the 2018-2025 period.
The project aims to ensure physical, mental and spiritual development of children aged from 0 to 8, and offer them equal access to care services for all-round development, in order to realise children’s rights and contribute to national human resources development.
Under the project, 70 percent of children from 0 to 8 years will equally access health care, education and protection services, and social welfare.
Also, 70 percent of officials working in child-related sectors and parents will be equipped with knowledge and skills to support children’s comprehensive development.
Half of centrally-run cities and provinces will set up networks of care for comprehensive child development, and pilot the model at home and in the community.
To that end, by 2025, the project will focus on communication work to raise public awareness of care for comprehensive child development in early years.
In Vietnam, close to 25 percent of children under five years of age suffer from stunting. Approximately 77 percent of preschool age children (aged 3-5) and 13 percent of kindergarten kids (aged under 3) do not attend any formal pre-learning programme.
Every year, about 2,000 children experience violence and abuse and 170,000 others are without parental care.-VNA
