People in the central province of Quang Binh’s Minh Hoa district now can participate in the locality’s socio-economic development planning as a result of a project funded by Plan International.

The Pro-poor Participatory Development Project (PPDP), sponsored by Plan International in Australia at a cost of 19 billion VND (893,000 USD), has been implemented in the district’s eight communes from January 2011 and will end in June this year.

It aims to improve local awareness of the planning process and make them more proactive in raising their opinions.

More than 7 billion VND from the project was spent on community development activities proposed by local residents, with the aim at dealing with difficulties in socio-economic development and poverty reduction.

At a March 5 workshop held in the province to review the results of the project, participants shared advice for intensifying the participation of the poor, ethnic people and women in socio-economic development.-VNA
