A Vietnam-US literature translation project named “New voices from Vietnam” will introduce a new face of contemporary Vietnam to foreign readers by selecting a number of short fictions written by 19 young local authors aged under 40.

The entries represent a culture and aesthetic that differs radically from previous generations of Vietnamese writers, reflecting stories from a vibrant culture racing through changes wrought by rapid modernisation and globalisation.

The project, carried out by Charles Waugh, an American PhD in fiction writing, is among 16 projects funded by the US National Endowment for the Arts.

These projects will bring literary works from 14 nations and in 12 languages to the US audience.-VNA
