Project fosters natural resource management, biodiversity conservation

Hanoi (VNA) – Experts gathered at aworkshop in Hanoi on August 22 to discuss a project on management of naturalresources and biodiversity preservation in socio-economic development.

Nguyen The Dong, Deputy Director of the VietnamEnvironment Administration (VEA) under the Ministry of Natural Resources andEnvironment said the project will be piloted in Dong Nai, Cu Lao Cham – Hoi An,and Tay Nghe An nature reserves.

According to Tran Huyen Trang from theBiodiversity Conservation Agency of VEA, the project will focus on completinglegal documents and policies incorporating natural resources management andbiodiversity preservation goals in socio-economic development and enhancingcapability of law enforcement.

Various activities will be piloted in the naturereserves to ensure sustainable use of natural resources, management of naturereserves and biodiversity-friendly development.

Harald Leummens, Chief Technical Advisor fromthe United Nations Development Programme Vietnam said the initiative willdevelop a mechanism to ensure cooperation among relevant agencies, enhance thecapability of the nature reserves and promote communications.

Local experts suggested the project’sfeasibility be evaluated in terms of schedule, resources, structures andcommitments made by stakeholders.

Truong Quang Hoc from the Vietnam NationalUniversity Hanoi underlined the need to integrate conservation work in economicdevelopment in nature reserves, local development plans and other projects.

It is necessary to develop an evaluation andsupervision system, Hoc added.

Vietnam has nine nature reserves recognised bythe United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.-VNA

Emission standards for motorcycles to be issued in July

Under the draft, motorcycles produced before 2008 will be subject to the lowest level of inspection standards, level 1, while those manufactured from 2008 onwards will be assessed to a higher standard. Vietnam consults stakeholders on climate change scenarios

The 2025 scenarios build on Vietnam’s 2020 projections, incorporating the latest findings from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s sixth assessment report and insights from domestic and global partners. Lang Son becomes Vietnam’s 4th global geopark

Lang Son Global Geopark spans over 4,842 square kilometres, roughly 58% of the province, and is home to around 627,500 people. It features a rich blend of geological wonders and cultural heritage, including stunning caves and sinkholes such as Nguom Mooc Cave, Tham Lum and Ung Roac. Its biodiversity is also protected within the Huu Lien Nature Reserve.

Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawater quality
