The Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) kicked off a project to upgrade the Cam Ranh Seaport in the central province of Khanh Hoa on May 26.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai launched an order to start the work.

The Deputy PM said this is an essential infrastructure work serving the socio-economic development and the trade of goods of Khanh Hoa province, the southern central and Central Highlands regions.

As part of the country’s seaport system development plan by 2020, the project will also help ease pressure on Nha Trang port, which will prioritise accommodating international tourist vessels in the future, he added.

The project has a total investment of nearly 520 billion VND totally funded by Vinalines. Once completed after 14 months of construction, the seaport’s new wharf is capable of receiving 50,000 DWT vessels or 30,000 DWT containers./.
