Vietnam always welcomes scientists, especially mathematicians, to Vietnam to teach and share experiences.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan made the statement at a reception for Prof. Neal Koblitz from the Mathematics Faculty of Washington University on December 11.

Nhan said the Professor’s prestige and achievements will contribute to promoting cooperation in maths between US and Vietnamese universities.

He stressed that Vietnam considers the development of fundamental scientific subjects, including mathematics, the foundation for national sustainable development. Vietnam has established a Mathematics Institute to attract a greater number of scientists, researchers and students participating in the subject professionally, he added.

For his part, Neal highly valued the importance Vietnam attaches to education and training development, especially in mathematics. He said Vietnam is heading in the right direction.

He affirmed that he will do his utmost and encourage other mathematicians to contribute to the development of Vietnam ’s Mathematics Institute.-VNA
