An initiative aimed at creating and piloting an online engagement website between National Assembly deputies and the public was signed between the Office of the National Assembly of Vietnam and the British Embassy in Hanoi on Oct. 26.

The website would be built under the technical support of Thumbsize Ltd, owner of Yoosk.com, which has been piloted in the UK . The website is scheduled to be ready for use by early 2010 and will connect deputies with the online public for the first time.

Through this website, the public will be encouraged to discuss and post questions concerning relevant issues for the deputies in the highest representative bodies in Vietnam .

At the signing ceremony, Nguyen Si Dung, deputy chairman of the Vietnam National Assembly Office, said: “The website will enable the participation of Vietnamese citizen in legislative work, and, at the same time, strengthen the relationship between elected deputies and the public, which is inline with the policies of the Vietnamese Government.”

The British Ambassador to Vietnam , Mark Kent, said; “The project introduces a new way of engaging with the Vietnamese public using participative media. I hope this project will serve the interest of both NA deputies and Vietnamese voters and will play an active role in improving UK-Vietnam friendship relations.”

The pilot project will last six months. It begins in October with a total budget of 30,000 GBP (49,000 USD). At the end of the pilot duration, the website will be owned, operated and managed by the Vietnam National Assembly Office./.
