Green growth at provincial level can address both social and environmental issues, experts from the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) have said.

Speaking at a February 26 seminar in the central province of Quang Nam, they said green growth’s strategic mission is to reduce gas emission and install green methods of production.

Provinces are now aiming to boost their economic competitiveness by integrating green growth opportunities into their development plans, the seminar heard.

At the event, representatives of Quang Nam province raised a number of issues in need of being addressed if they are to succeed in their aims, such as sustainable poverty reduction, the efficient use of loans, human resources development, connections between rural and urban areas, infrastructure development, climate change response, and sustainable tourism development.

They are also the targets listed in the locality’s socio-economic development strategy by 2020 in order to reach green and sustainable development.

The event, coorganised by the KOICA and the Ministry of Planning and Investment, forms part of activities in a project launched by the agency to help Vietnam implement its green growth strategy.-VNA
