Nearly half of the existing 32 suspension bridges in the southern central province of Quang Ngai are severely damaged and degraded, but a lack of funding is preventing local authorities from repairing these bridges, putting people’s safety at risk, according to the provincial Department of Transport.
Residents in the mountainous districts of Tay Tra, Son Ha and Ba To still use 10 poorly-made, heavily degraded bridges daily.
In preparation for the upcoming flood and storm season, Tay Tra, as well as other mountainous districts, is requesting funding from the province to repair the bridges that are in bad conditions.
However, according to the Department of Transport, as local resources, especially at the commune and district levels are currently very limited, it is impossible to arrange investments for the renovation of all suspension bridges in the province.-VNA
