The northern province of Quang Ninh has outlined a number of measures to drive its socio-economic development during the second half of the year.

The provincial People’s Council met on July 16-19 to discuss the obstacles blocking development and the solutions required to tackle them.

In the past six months, Quang Ninh’s economy expanded an estimated 6.5 percent, a figure which authorities said can be bettered in the remaining part of the year.

The council instructed that between July and December, provincial departments should continue to clear business difficulties, especially in the coal sector, while working harder to detect cases of tax evasion. They should also try to attract more investment and move more government procedures online.

More focus will be placed on building new rural areas and cracking down on illegal coal mining and transport.

The council adopted a resolution on incentives for investment in industrial and economic zones.

At the meeting, the deputies also cast their confidence votes on 14 positions elected by the People’s Council. All the position holders got an approval rate at more than 50 percent of the votes.-VNA
