Quang Ninh (VNA) – The northern province of Quang Ninh has invested over 13 trillion VND (572 million USD) in implementing the national strategic programme on new-style rural area in 2017.

The amount included over 1.2 trillion VND (52.8 million USD) sourced from the State budget, accounting for 9.3 percent.

The rest was mobilised from different resources, including enterprises, agencies, and particularly residents, whose contribution exceeded 458 billion VND (20.15 million USD).

The figure shows the active participation of residents in the programme launched by the Government and localities.

According to the provincial board for the new-style rural area building programme, 111 communes in the province have completed 14 out of 20 criteria, by the end of 2017, on average, up an average of 2.3 criteria from 2016.

In June this year, 17 communes registered to complete the programme in 2017.  As of now, they have basically met all criteria under the programme, according to local reports.

In 2018, the province aims to have at least 12 additional communes fulfill the programme’s requirement.

At the same time, communes recognised under the old set of criteria for new-style rural areas will strive to meet the new criteria next year.

The province’s annual income per capita is expected to range between 30-45 million VND (1,320 – 1,760 USD), while the poor household rate falling by 0.3 – 0.7 percent in the year.

The national target programme on building new-style rural areas, initiated by the Vietnamese Government in 2010, sets 19 criteria on socio-economic development, politics, and defence, aiming to boost rural regions of Vietnam.

The list of criteria includes the development of infrastructure, the improvement of production capacity, environmental protection, and the promotion of cultural values.

In 2015, the set of criteria was increased to 20.-VNA
