Scientists and scholars from home and abroad will exchange their experience in developing special economic zones (SEZs) at an international scientific conference scheduled for March 20-21 in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

The symposium is co-organised by the province’s steering committee for organising international conferences and the China Centre for Special Economic Zone Research under the Chinese province of Guangdong’s Shenzhen University, said the Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee at a press conference on February 13.

Around 350 delegates are expected to attend the event and exchange information on the establishment and development of the world’s industrial clusters, SEZs and free economic zones over the past 30 years, introducing measures and policies to grow the model of SEZs in Vietnam and Quang Ninh in particular.

In addition to institutions and policies related to land, finance and tax, discussions on the organisational apparatus of SEZs, benefits and challenges, as well as strategies on the development of industries in the zones will be important at the conference.

Ways to attract investment resources, solutions to comprehensive infrastructure development and sustainable economic growth will also be mentioned.

Experience shared at the event will be applied in developing Vietnamese SEZs and Quang Ninh’s Van Don SEZ and the Mong Cai border gate economic zone.

Together with the world’s prestigious and experienced managers and speakers, the event will attract the participation of leaders from the three provinces of Khanh Hoa, Kien Giang and Lam Dong – the localities that have the greatest potential and advantages in building SEZs.

Various activities will take place on the sidelines of the conference such as talks between Quang Ninh provincial leaders and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), and cultural exchanges and fact-finding tours to Van Don district, Ha Long Bay and Yen Tu relic site.-VNA
