Quang Ninh (VNA) - Eighty two out of 125 communes and six out of ten districts in the northeastern province of Quang Ninh are expected to become new-style rural areas by the end of 2015.

Dong Trieu became the first modern district in the province.

In the past few years, the province has mobilised 57.7 trillion VND (2.56 billion USD) for the new-style rural building programme. The money has been splashed out on the construction of more than 1,200 works, including 600 kilometres of roads, over 84 kilometres of irrigational system and hundreds of communal clinics and cultural centres.

Thanks to these efforts, all the communes in the province have met criteria on health care, education, electricity and clean water access. Meanwhile, poverty rate has dropped to 1.55 percent from 39.9 percent in 2011.

Quang Ninh aims to have 80 percent of its localities satisfying new-style rural area criteria by 2020. To realise this goal, the province needs over 56 trillion VND (2.5 billion USD).

The province will integrate new style rural building into the “one commune, one product” programme, which helps increase the value of farm produce, jack up local people’s incomes and ensure sustainable poverty reduction.-VNA
