A number of pressing issues facing the radio industry in Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region are due to be discussed at the 2013 RadioAsia Conference, which will kick off in Hanoi on July 29.

With the theme “Radio and Social Media: Where to next”, the three-day event hosted by the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) is expected to bring together many leading radio broadcasters, communication specialists, policymakers and academics from across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

Participants will voice their opinions on a host of heated topics such as Radio on the Move: A New Era Dawns; A New Dimension of Radio; Killer Apps for Radio; Interacting with the ‘Connected’ Audience; Storytelling and the ‘On-air’ Imagination; Folklore in Vietnamese Radio; and Radio: The Private Realm ‘Cute Producer – Creative Listener.’

Two radio workshops, “Social media, mobile reporting and radio programming: New techniques for ‘heritage’ media” and “Radio and emergency situations: Broadcaster’s vital role”, will be made available on the sidelines of the event.

Initiated by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) in 2006, the annual RadioAsia conference, the only international radio broadcasting event of its kind in the region, has been hosted in many countries, namely Singapore, Malaysia, India and Indonesia.

As a full member of ABU since 1964, VOV has been affirming its active role in the union.-VNA
