The June 4 heavy downpour and gale in Hanoi killed one person and uprooted nearly a hundred of trees, according to a preliminary report from the municipal authorities.

A tree measuring 1.2 metre at its diameter at the Hung Vuong – Phan Dinh Phung intersection fell on top a taxi, killing the driver.

The hour long cloudburst also blocked traffic and caused a power blackout in several streets such as Tran Khat Chan, Huynh Thuc Khang and Nguyen Chi Thanh, as well as interrupted the power supply by a 110kV transformer in the capital.

According to the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), at 11 pm of the day, the company resumed electricity supply for all areas.-VNA
