The Nha Trang Oceanography Institute has successfully reproduced the rare Hedgehog seahorse (Hippocampus pinosissimus), which is listed as vulnerable in the Red Book of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

In addition to its values in traditional medicine, the seahorse is a popular ornamental fish in China, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the Philippines.

The alive rate among young Hedgehog seahorse born reached 50 percent which is a high rate compared with the rate in other countries.

Earlier, Vietnamese scientists also successfully bred black seahorse (Hippocampus kuda) and flecked seahorse (Hippocampus comes)./.
