State President Nguyen Minh Triet has called on the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUD) to expand the social housing system for workers, students and other low income earners.

The State leader entrusted the task to HUD at a ceremony held by the corporation on October 14 to receive the State title of “Labour Hero”, pointing out that the issue will be very important for the corporation in the near future when it joins and becomes the backbone of the Vietnam Housing and Urban Development Group.

Right after its foundation in late 1989, HUD managed to carry out numerous housing projects in southern Hanoi , marked by the Bac Linh Dam urban development possessing a modern infrastructure.

The project was recognised by the Ministry of Construction as a model urban zone after 10 years in the making.

After turning into a State-owned corporation in June, 2000, HUD expanded its operations to the whole of the country, investing in over 20 projects on 2,000 ha of land in 20 cities and provinces.

In Hanoi alone, the corporation has built over 2 million sq. m. of apartments for average income earners./.
