On the occasion of the New Year of the Tiger, the Lễ Tiến Lịch (Calendar offering to the King Ceremony) was recreated for the first time at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long.

The activity was organized by Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center, in collaboration with Thang Long Cultural Heritage Association and Van Hien Company.

The activity was carried out to promote the ceremony of calendar offering to the king, which in the past used to happen at the beginning of a new year. This ritual has many important meanings by showing the spirit of independence and self-control and also the development level of Vietnamese civilization and culture.

According to historian Le Van Lan, Vietnam had more than a thousand years under heavy influence from the North’s dynasties and we used calendars made by them.

But since the Ly Dynasty, when Vietnam gained autonomy, the Viet people made calendars themselves.

At that time, the Ly Dynasty built a building to observe astronomy, weather, and climate. They recorded social activities, and then collect data to make a calendar./.
