On Nov. 9 Vietnam’s Red Cross decided to provide a second package of relief aid, including money and various commodities, to the three hardest-hit central provinces of Phu Yen, Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa after being struck by typhoon Mirinae.

The package includes 250 million VND, clothes, lifebuoys and 3,000 boxes of household for people in flooded areas.

Phu Yen, the hardest-hit province, will receive 250 million VND and 2,000 boxes of supplies, while Binh Dinh will get 600 and Khanh Hoa 400.

Earlier, from Nov. 4-8, a mission from Vietnam ’s Red Cross, led by Deputy President Phung Van Hoan, paid a visit to all three provinces and delivered 700 packages of commodities and 300 million VND.

The death toll from typhoon Mirinae was reported at 116 by the Central Steering Committee for Storm and Flood Prevention on November 7.

The central province of Phu Yen was the hardest hit, losing 73 people to the disaster, followed by Binh Dinh with 22, and Khanh Hoa 13.

At present, many areas in Phu Yen are still isolated and have no electricity or clean water.

The damage after the typhoon, the 11th to hit Vietnam this year, was initially estimated to cost nearly 5 trillion VND./.
