Chairing the second meeting of the National Committee for APEC 2027 to review preparations for the event, on January 28, PM Pham Minh Chinh stated that Party General Secretary To Lam has highlighted APEC 2027 as a high-level external affairs event of special significance, and an excellent opportunity to showcase Vietnam as an integrated, innovative, friendly, and dynamic country to the world.

The special zone, comprising eight islands with a combined land area of 13.98 sq.km, is located about 110km west of Phu Quoc island and roughly 220km from the provincial administrative centre. With its strategically vital location, it serves as a frontline maritime outpost in the nation’s southwestern waters.
To host APEC 2027, An Giang province proposed and received approval for 21 infrastructure projects in the Phu Quoc special zone, with a total estimated investment of 137 trillion VND (nearly 5.2 billion USD).
Officials, Party members, and residents in An Giang province view the public consultation on the draft documents for the 14th National Party Congress as a historic and important step in exercising democracy, tapping into collective wisdom, and laying a strong foundation for the country’s sustainable development in the new era.
They emphasised the need to prioritise investment in digital and telecommunications infrastructure in island areas to facilitate the development of digital governance, digital economy, and smart tourism – key pillars aligned with the zones' development orientation.
