Vietnamese workers struck by waves in Japan: one dead, three missing

A group of eight Vietnamese workers encountered a sea accident triggered by large waves in Japan’s Fukui prefecture on March 21, leaving one person dead, three missing and one injured receiving treatment in hospital, and three others rescued unharmed, reported the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan.

Japan, UNICEF join hands to strengthen children’s resilience to natural disasters, climate change

Natural disasters in Vietnam have been increasing in both frequency and intensity. Typhoon No.3 in 2024 (Yagi), along with severe floods, inundation and landslides in 2025, caused significant human and material losses. Homeland Spring 2026 brings overseas Vietnamese together in Japan

The ambassador expressed his delight at the growing strength of the Vietnamese community in Japan and its active contributions to Vietnam’s development as well as to the bilateral ties. Currently, the Vietnamese community in Japan remains the second-largest of its kind in the world, with around 700,000 people and an average annual increase of 50,000–60,000.

During the visit, Japanese officers and sailors are scheduled to pay courtesy calls on leaders of the Da Nang People’s Committee, the director of the regional maritime search and rescue coordination centre No. 2, and the Commander of Coast Guard Region 2, as well as visit local cultural and tourist sites.

No reports of Vietnamese casualties in offshore Aomori earthquake

Immediately after receiving the information about the quake off the coast of Aomori prefecture, the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan activated emergency response measures. It took urgent actions under its citizen protection plan, promptly contacting local authorities, relevant agencies, Vietnamese community associations and key liaison points.

Vietnam, Japan eye stronger labour cooperation

By the end of June this year, Japan had received about 200,000 Vietnamese technical interns and 150,000 specified skilled workers, making Vietnam the largest sending country. Many workers returning from Japan have effectively applied the knowledge and skills they acquired there.
