Hanoi (VNA) – A regional symposium “Russian language in Southeast Asia” opened in Hanoi on December 15, attracting more than 200 delegates from Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia and Russia.

Speaking at the event, Russian Ambassador Constantin Vkunov expressed his belief that Russia’s external policies are encouraging global interest in Russia and Russian language studies.

Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly’s Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children Hoang Thi Hoa said the Vietnamese legislature supports projects that popularise Russian language and improve Russian teachers’ capacity.

The two-day event aims to establish ties among Russian teachers and provide a platform for multi-faceted humanitarian cooperation.

Participants discussed contents regarding linguistics, education and training such as teachers’ training, tertiary and post-tertiary education, scientific research and the transfer of Russian universities’ curricula to Southeast Asian countries./.
