Hanoi (VNA) – The Prime Minister has issued a decision regulating the functions, tasks, power and organisation of the State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Under the decision, the committee is a general department-level agency under the direct control of the Foreign Ministry, tasked with assisting the Foreign Minister in exercising State management of affairs related to overseas Vietnamese (OVs).

The committee has the task to advise the Foreign Minister in submitting draft laws and legal documents related to OV affairs to the Government, the Prime Minister and other competent organs.

Another function of the committee is to assess the situation of OV communities, while supporting OVs in settling down and integrating in the host society, along with promoting national unity and preserving the national cultural identity among the communities.

The committee will work to disseminate information on the Communist Party of Vietnam’s guidelines and policies, the Vietnamese State’s laws and the situation in Vietnam among OVs.

It is responsible for implementing international cooperation related to OVs and managing social organisations related to OVs in accordance with the law.

The committee is also tasked with mobilising resources from OVs for national development and guiding and supporting OVs and their organisations in their links with the home country.

The committee is headed by a Deputy Foreign Minister assigned by the Foreign Minister and four deputy chairmen at most. -VNA
