The Vietnam Red Cross Association has decided to give 200 million VND and 200 packages of goods in emergency aid to three northern mountainous provinces, which have been hard hit by floods and torrential rains over the past few days.

Of the aid, Bac Kan will receive 100 million VND and 200 packages of goods, while Cao Bang and Ha Giang will receive 50 million VND each.

The Health Ministry will also provide the three provinces and nearby Lai Chau with medicines and life-jackets to serve flood and storms control work.

Floods and torrential rains killed at least 16 people and left 15 others missing in northern mountainous provinces over recent days, according to initial reports on July 5 from the Central Steering Board for Flood and Storm Control.

Bac Kan province suffered the heaviest losses with 13 dead and 11 missing. Cao Bang province has one dead and two missing, Ha Giang has one dead and one missing, Lai Chau has one dead and Lao Cai has one missing.

Floods also submerged and swept away a great number of houses, as well as damaging roads, irrigation works and crops./.
